American Pie – Easy Piano Sheet Music

“American Pie” was written by American singer/songwriter, Don McLean. It was recorded and released in 1971 on his album of the same name. His single became a #1 hit in the USA for 4 weeks in 1972. “American Pie” also topped the charts in Australia, New Zealand and Canada, and was listed on the RIAA project’s Songs of the Century.

The phrase “the day the music died” refers to a plane crash in 1959 that killed early rock and roll stars, Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens. This event ended the era of early rock and roll.

In 2017, marking the 50th anniversary of the song, the Library of Congress deemed “American Pie” “culturally, historically, or artistically significant”. McLean’s original recording was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry.
