If you ask someone to name a great composer, there’s a good chance their first answer will be Beethoven. Indeed, Beethoven’s influence on music cannot be understated, and any student of music should become familiar with his work. Luckily, Beethoven’s music is a joy to both listen to and perform, so becoming acquainted with his work is a most pleasant task.
Nothing makes a young pianist feel more connected to musical history than playing the famed first notes of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, and students will practice for hours to perfect their rendition of the haunting “Moonlight” Sonata and “Fur Elise.” There’s something about mastering a Beethoven piece that gives a special sense of accomplishment and connection to the musical community.
